City parking is free after 5pm.  Please note this is the same lecture series that was presented in 2025 at the University of Waikato.  What to expect: Week One: Unpackaging the PictureShowcasing the tools for looking at and analysing an artwork using a wide range of artworks from the local to the international and the historical to contemporary. Week Two: Women and ArtThe depiction of women in artworks through time and how they have been represented and how that has changed, as well as the female artist, their work and reception.  Week Three: Collections and ExhibitionsA discussion about how collections are developed both at home and abroad, as well as considering the back stories to curating exhibitions.  Week Four: Art and CrimeArt history is not always a pretty picture. Often referred to as the ‘dark side’, art crime captures fraud, theft and vandalism. A relatively new discipline, art crime has been excluded from mainstream art histories, and yet, is very much part of the art world.
